The ongoing pandemic has really thrown a wrench in many people’s travel plans, hasn’t it? Travel is still restricted in a lot of places, but that’s not to say it’s impossible. You can still get in your car, ride a train or take a plane to get to your destination. Whether you’re traveling for work or pleasure, domestically or internationally, here are healthy travel tips to help you look and feel your best while exploring the world around you!
Healthy Travel Tips: What To Pack In Your Travel Bag
What goes in your bag will depend on where you’re going. For instance, you won’t pack snorkeling gear if you’re headed up to the mountains. And you’d skip the business suits if you’re going on a jungle adventure. That said, you can pack as many or as little as you want. To ensure your health and safety, take these with you on your trips:
1) First aid kit
It’s so easy to overlook first aid kits when traveling. After all, it’s the fun and adventure we all look forward to, not accidents and emergencies. But unfortunately, they do happen… all the time. To start with, grab yourself a basic first aid kit from the nearest drugstore or pharmacy in your area. Then add anything else you may need. For instance, if your kit is missing some of these items below, feel free to add them:
- Band-aids or gauze pads – to cover up minor cuts, scrapes and wounds
- Antibacterial ointment – helps treat minor cuts and scrapes and prevents infection
- Antihistamine – helps with itchy rashes and bumps
- Ibuprofen or paracetamol – helps relieve headaches, minor pain and fever (ibuprofen helps with swelling too)
- Insect repellant – research what the most common insects are in your destination and look for the proper repellant
2) Prescription medication
Don’t lump these in with your first aid kit as you may need immediate access to them in case of emergency. Your prescription meds should be in their original packaging. Also, don’t forget to bring along your doctor’s prescription letter in case authorities ask for it. As for the quantity, pack extra as your meds may not be available in your destination.
3) The right supplements
Don’t leave your supplements behind when traveling! In addition to the supplements you’re already taking, consider bringing these along with you too (if you aren’t already):

4) Extra sanitizers and masks

1) Get enough rest
Traveling can be stressful for your body (1), so you need to prepare beforehand. Get plenty of rest before you get on your car, train, ship, or plane, this is especially important if you’re behind the wheel. Likewise, when you arrive at your destination, try to get some rest before you do any of the fun stuff! Why? Because when you’re tired, your immunity may be compromised, so best to avoid this scenario.
2) Take precautions against covid-19
Traveling using public transport means queues and terminals and people crammed in tight spaces. To avoid getting infected with the covid-19 virus, wear a mask, and limit close contact with other people. The virus is particularly dangerous to people with comorbidities, but even young people aren’t exempt (2). It’s therefore in your best interest to avoid physical contact as much as possible.
3) Avoid touching surfaces unless necessary
Keep your hands to yourself when you’re out and about. Hand sanitizers and disinfecting wipes can only do so much if you keep on touching random surfaces. The covid-19 virus can survive on various surfaces for hours and even days (3)! If you do need to touch something, avoid touching your face afterward, specifically your eyes, nose, and mouth (4).
